Introducing Plainfield Chiropractor Dr. Michelle Dougherty

Dr. Michelle Dougherty 2

Dr. Michelle S. Dougherty hails from Virginia Beach, VA and grew up as a military brat overseas in Germany and Italy where she graduated from high school. She is fluent in Spanish and Italian and was actively involved in sports competing in soccer, tennis, volleyball, and basketball. Between high school and attending college she was involved in an accident that left her with complications after three surgeries.

Dr. Dougherty earned her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Biobehavioral Health from Pennsylvania State University. Her calling for chiropractic was realized her senior year at Penn State when she learned about alternative health approaches working with the body and that there was in fact a name…a profession…a way of life that coincided with her philosophy that was instilled in her at a young age. Since her accident she had suffered from recurrent tonsillitis, sinus problems, and knee pain until she began chiropractic care. She quickly understood that chiropractic was more than a back/neck pain remedy but it actually helps restore function to the muscles, organs, and tissues in your body by removing nerve interference so that the brain can communicate with the rest of the body!

Dr. Dougherty attended world-renowned Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA and graduated with her Doctorate in 2006. She has advanced studies in pediatrics, functional endocrinology, and nutrition. While on a Clinic Abroad trip for 2 weeks last year she served the people of Brazil seeing about 5000 patients as a group with her youngest at three months old to her oldest at 92 years old seeing everything from colic to chronic sciatica. Realizing that every patient is individually unique, she practices many different adjusting techniques to meet your needs and those of your family.

Dr. Dougherty joined the Main Street Family in December 2006 where she continues to serve the people of Plainfield and the surrounding communities to help them heal from the inside out without the use of drugs or surgery. Dr. Dougherty is National Board Certified, a Red Cross certified “Protect Your Back” instructor, and a member of several professional organizations including the American Chiropractic Association, International Chiropractic Pediatric Association, and Illinois Prairie State Chiropractic Association.

In addition to concentrating on the spine, Dr. Dougherty also specializes in the treatments of women’s health issues such as: hormonal imbalance, infertility, PMS, difficult shifts to menopause, and adrenal fatigue. She is newly married to Andrew and they enjoy their large happy puppy!

Could a chiropractor put an end to bedwetting?
If bladder control seems elusive, consider chiropractic. If spinal bones are interfering with nerves that control your child's bladder, plastic sheets, alarms and other methods simply add to the embarrassment. Plainfield parents are often amazed (and relieved) that chiropractic can be so helpful. Learn more.
How do you "catch" a cold?
Simply lower your resistance by avoiding the proper rest and exercise, eating lots of sugar and junk food, putting up with emotional stress and neglecting your nervous system by avoiding your chiropractor. You won't have to catch a cold because it will catch you!
